  • I am quite a fan of the long cardi at the moment, especially the light ones that are around. They cover a multitude without putting up the temperature. I haven’t seen the catalogues you got though. Will have to have a look and see if I can get hold of them. What with the shoes and all, I think I may have to make you my personal shopper by the way !!

Remember I asked about the IM take on suitable summer workwear? Triumph of the Cardigan! I got catalogues from Wrap and from Kew at the weekend – both have extensive ranges of long, drapey, waterfall or assymetric cardis in all sorts of colours, as well as the usual strappy dresses, strappy tops and floaty jobbies that are useless for the British and indeed Irish summer! I remember when I were a lad we all had Aran cardigans for the summer – it was part of our summer wardrobes for a very good reason!

here they are! Very soft, very lightweight and I was inclined when I tried them on to think they would be of a wearable height. But I will try them again before making a decision. If your feet are miserable, your whole body sympathises! And that’s a REALLY middle-aged thing to say. Pass me that copy of the Daily Mail, I think I saw a nice Gor-ray skirt and a pair of mushroom coloured bunion slippers in there, very reasonable…

  • Ha, ha, ha … I think you have inspired me! I will post haste to the M&S website to check out the red footglove sandals. Watch this space :)

hi there! Are you welcoming the sudden influx of summer sandals and shoes with low heels or low wedges? Lots of pretty styles, when last year everything was dead flat (NOOOOOO!!!!) or too ridiculously high for anyone who walks anywhere. Walkable sandals in soft leather….mmmm. Currently eyeing some red footglove ones in M&S in Belfast at £39.50, I may strike this weekend….

And thinking of things summery, what’s the IM take on suitable attire for the office in hot weather?

  • well they ask me for stamps and for aspirin but so far they haven’t stolen from my purse … I’ll keep a close eye on them from now on though … starting tomorrow

  • Christina

yeah well I could handle flowers, presents and so on – but I’d be worried they would steal from my purse…

  • Hmmm. This is true. But worse still is when you co-workers treat you like you’re their mother – then you’re really in trouble ;)

more irritating preconceptions – in the office, if there’s a question about digital photography, social networking or basically anything at all that’s done on a computer, who gets asked? Is it the 50-something woman? Guess again… grrrrrrrrr

You know the way in France, one year you’re there and everyone calls you mademoiselle? Then magically, one year you go back and you have become madame? It’s a marker, and the beginning of the end, if you felt like being very gloomy. What markers are there in our culture? One from my own experience is about a year ago, attending for x-ray, and the radiographer assumed I would be wearing elasticated-waist trousers. Any thoughts?
