Ion Active Power Treatment : Review

Recently, thanks to an invitation from The Buff Day Spa, I enjoyed my first Ion Active Power Treatment, a relaxing and enjoyable 45-minute facial that uses Dermalogica products.

My appointment was for lunch time. I began to relax the moment I arrived at reception. Sign in was fast and friendly. The receptionist led me to a changing room where I quickly changed into gown and slippers before heading to the relaxation area. There, from the luxury of a deep window seat, I watched the world hurry past on the street below while waiting for my therapist.

When it was time for the treatment to begin, I proceeded upstairs to a candle lit treatment room. There, with music playing softly in the background and a cosy blanket to snuggle under, it was easy to forget that I was in the city centre in the middle of a working day.

The therapist explained that the Ion Active Power Treatment is an advanced facial. It can be customised to address problems such as ageing, uneven skin tone, dehydration and acne.

I chose the rehydrating option and mentioned fine lines on the forehead and under the eyes as a particular concern.

The treatment begins with a brief, gentle massage of head, legs and feet. It then concentrates on the face and décolleté. It incorporates all the elements that you expect from a salon facial  — cleansing, exfoliation, mask and moisturising — but what is different is that it uses treatment room technology, hot stones and massage to get the maximum benefit from the products that are applied.

The Ion Active aspect involves a special machine designed to help the products penetrate further into the skin.  This felt like a gentle, blunt pen in upward sweeping motion across the face. Then the therapist used hot stone massage to continue to work the products into the skin. This was my first experience of hot stones in a facial treatment and it was surprisingly relaxing. It is definitely something that I would choose to have again. The treatment also included an element of Indian head massage.

I particularly liked how the therapist used hot towels at various points to lift product from the skin. I also enjoyed the use of a light spritz to cool and refresh the skin.

When the treatment was complete, it was time to move to the tranquillity room. Here, I enjoyed a few further minutes of rest and relaxation.  Then, it was time to head back, refreshed and glowing, to continue with the working day.

A week on from the Ion Active Power Treatment I notice that the fine lines under my eyes still show the benefits of the treatment. My skin also feels like it is absorbing my daily skincare products more effectively than before.
