Sunday austerity

Good morning world! It’s Sunday 5th December 2010 and this is my first ever blog entry from my new iPad. As you know, Ireland is under a new austerity regime supervised by the IMF and a host of others to whom we are indebted to the tune of billions. How many billions exactly seems to depend on the time of day and on who’s holding the calculator. This iPad was purchased under Izzy’s new austerity regime. I waited till Black Friday and saved €41. I may need to come back and convert that to punts if we get thrown out of the euro. No doubt there’s an app. In the meantime, I have made further savings today by venturing behind Murdoch’s pay wall to sample my first paid for Sunday Times. It cost me £1 or €1.18 – a saving of €1.32 on the print edition. Review to follow. Meanwhile, a visit to theJournal.ie saved another €2.50 since for thi reader’s purposes it adequately replaces the Sindo. The Journal has a useful Budget 2011 calculator which suggests Izzy will be down €101 a month after Tuesday. But, with savings of 2.50 x 4 and 1.32 x 4 per month, I’m on the way to dealing with the losses. I may, however, be looking to the IMF for a ‘dig out’ when I have to replace the iPhone.
