The blowsy red tulips that I planted in the wrong place are thriving – dominating their companions in rather the manner of an uninvited celebrity who turns up at a private dinner party.
Having appeared hot on the heels of the daffodils, these tulips appear totally oblivious to their misplacement. Having danced for the last week or two a good foot clear over the Vinca Minor ground cover, they are now preparing to say their farewell for another year but not before spilling open to reveal their secret core to the birds and the bees.
I love the showiness of these big gawdy flowers – I wish I had a walled garden to show them off properly.
