The joys of clematis in an Irish country garden

Clematis

This gorgeous pink clematis is in full blossom in an Irish garden in early May

Considering I am an uneducated, if enthusiastic, gardener I am surprised to be taking such pleasure in the results of my rather inept labours this week.

There is chaotic colour to enjoy as the clematis I inherited when I bought this house and have neglected for 15 years since bursts into a profusion of blossom and covers the wall that separates me from my neighbour.

It seems astonishing that a single plant can produce such a profusion of blossom – the more so when you consider that it has had neither the benefit of watering nor of feeding for the past 15 years. Neglect is clearly not always a bad thing.
