Today I came across an interesting article by Meryl Davids Landau on more.com that suggests rinsing your sinus with salt water may help with headaches and other sinus symptoms. This reminded me that spa at the Parknasilla Hotel in County Kerry has a salt steam room and the blurb outside says it can be helpful for sinus problems. I can’t work out how to tip hot salty water into my nose without getting it all over my face and – worse still – risking getting it on my freshly done hair. So, instead, I am opting to try a salt steam treatment. Big bowl of boiling water liberarlly laced with salt. Towel over head. Inhale deeply. Since my headache has hung around all day today, this seems worth a try. I will let you know how I get on ;)
And the verdict after one 10 minute steam session is ….
It felt quite relaxing and seems to have helped a little – enough to encourage me to try again.

neti pots are great & you will not get all wet from using one! lol
a nasal irrigator is great too. Dr. Grossan makes one called a Hydropulse & water pik has a nasal attachment. it doesn't hurt at all & you can make your own saline or buy premade packets to add to warm water. I started off with a neti pot & then bought the Hydropulse. it costs about $97.00 but I have had it for over a year & use it twice a day. the neti pot I take to work in case I need to use it during the day
Ladies, you have inspired me. I have been to the Amazon website to see about purchasing one of these. I still think I'm going to end up with a wet face but I am prepared to give it a go. Thanks for the tip. I will let you know how I get on.
I was going to say to you about the neti pot as well, I've never used one but my yoga teacher had one and she did SAY she used it, but I don't know… anyway you could put it on your menopausal gift list!
I've used a neti pot for sinus cleaning for about 15 years – it's fabulous. No more sinus infections, fewer colds. With a little practice, I got the hang of using it without drenching hair, face, clothes, etc. A great general health/wellness aid.
