What a fabulous day we’ve had – beautiful autumn sunshine until early evening. I took advantage of it and went out walking this afternoon. The trees are at their finest – leaves turning but not yet fallen. There’s a hint of melancholy in the air and – in my present condition – I am of course considering whether my own internal body clock is at around the same time as the trees. Late summer would be stretching it. It got me thinking some really philosophical thoughts – wondering for example, if spring will follow winter for the individual as it does for nature. That’s the spiritual question. And, finding myself pondering such things reminded me of Keats and his season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Before long, there I was contemplating pathetic fallacy. (In a nutshell – for anyone who didn’t take English – it’s when nature appears to mirror the human condition.) Of course it’s not too far from an ‘f’ to a silly ‘ph’ joke but if I had risked that in the title of this post, it wouldn’t be long before there’d be someone trying to sell me those little blue pills that they spam about – but that’s a blog for another day.
